Abstract Taylor (2014) observes that some of the factual claims made in Allen (1980) , most thorough examination free relatives Old English to date, are not entirely correct. presents examples Allen’s analysis does account for and proposes an alternative which relative pronoun can be internal clause case is determined by hierarchy proposed Harbert (2007) Gothic. This corpus-based study supplies new data showing while Taylor’s relative-internal needed examples, evidence support suggested except regulating optional attraction. Latin influence may do fit usual patterns.
